loving
“I have met someone. Someone so… unexpected. That her happiness supersedes my former life’s pursuits. I want to give her everything. Be everything for her. She is my how, and she is my why.”
I watched this fantastic show over the last couple days, during my Christmas break, and it is phenomenal. I absolutely recommend it, and read the book by Bonnie Garmus first! Both wonderful — a great story.
I loved pretty much everything about the show, but this is one small piece that stood out to me. I love the sentences, “I want to give her everything. Be everything for her.”
It got me thinking about my Unexpected Someone and how much I want Jake to have every dream and good thing in his life. How much he deserves. How much better I want to be for him.
I want to give him everything. I want to see him, with the purest of eyes, to know all of him and love all of him. I want to be his biggest supporter, in big ways, small ways, and all the ways that matter.
Loving and being loved is such a high matter, such a big task, such a tall importance. It is simple and also profound. It is difficult and also the easiest thing in the world. It is pain and sacrifice and humility and joy and astonishment. A gift.
I want to love better. I want to serve and give, better. Isn’t this what the most cherished people in our lives deserve? Don’t we deserve this kind of love ourselves?
Love yourself. Love others.
