be light
This is a note for myself.
One that’s hard for me to follow.
A note that goes against my nature and training. 🤣
Maybe it’s a note you need, too.
Here we go…
Don’t take things too seriously.
Just as a general rule of thumb.
There is too much life to live, too much complexity, too many experiences and points of view to be had, and you don’t want it all stifled by the closing off that comes with attaching great amounts of gravity to everything.
Can you be more open?
Can you let things flow as they will and be curious instead of mind-made-up?
Can you follow what feels easy and right? (What’s right does not always feel easy, but maybe when it does, you don’t have to make it more complicated!)
Commit to the practice of zooming out. Whenever possible, try to consider some unbiased perspective for your life and whatever scenario you find yourself in.
Overanalyzing or assigning drama and negative prediction doesn’t give you more control or chance of success — maybe just the illusion of those things.
What if it turns out great??
What if the outcome you wanted but didn’t get wasn’t actually going to be the best for you?
What if there is a reason your path has led you to exactly where you are now, and what if you will take the rest of the path to mind-blowing places?
If you try to make sense of everything in your life and figure it all out and plan your next million moves…
If you decide whether events were good or bad…
If you hope desperately for the result you have in mind and reject vehemently anything that does not match that…
You might be shutting yourself off to a whole world of other possibilities! What if?
Look up. Zoom out. Imagine and receive.
When you go after what feels like the “should” option — the choice you “should” make, with the securities and results and details you “should” want in your life, on the timeline you “should” be following — you will sell yourself short on the chance to create YOUR best life.
No one else can decide for you.
There is never a time, in making your life’s decisions, big and small, when you need to go against your values or ignore the truth and desire within you, in order to follow someone else.
If something feels too weighty or dry for you, it probably is!
Let yourself have all the light and all the richness!
You do not have to build your days around things you “should” be doing or getting, and if giving up those “shoulds” scares you because you’re afraid you might mess up or regret it or fall behind…
Remember you don’t have to take it so seriously.
You can try something because you wanted to try it.
You can remain in the holding pattern of patience instead of jumping at the first morsel of an option up for grabs. (Scarcity is no friend.)
You can pivot and redirect as many times as you’d like. As many times as it takes.
You can receive the flow of grace in your life and welcome all the second chances and Try Agains. If something didn’t work out, if a conversation feels like it’s going all wrong, whatever it may be… there is always the option to step back and create a little space and time. It doesn’t have to be all good or all bad, and with zooming out can come clarity. Give yourself that permission to let some of the seriousness go and see what comes next.
You can live in acceptance of all that already is, instead of tension and controlling resistance.
(Contrary to common belief that we will never get anything done or achieve our goals if we live in acceptance, the truth is, you will have far greater power and ability from a place of acceptance than you ever will in the closed tension of resistance. Let it all flow, and you can build your dreams and goals with so much more peace and alignment, promise. Accept. Aim. Act.)
You can and should 😉 stay decidedly true to your highest values, the ones that make you feel warm, fulfilled, and sure — even if the chances you take in pursuit of them scare you a little and leave you grappling with the unknown.
Only you get to decide what you really want for your vision of your best, most creative life.
And you’re free to change your mind!
So don’t make it all too hard on yourself.
G.K. Chesterton said, “It is easy to be heavy; hard to be light.”
Be the light.
Move towards the path of wonder and joy. Surrounding yourself with an environment of wonder matters so much in the life you really want to be living. Your environment will either help or hinder keeping your wonder awake and thriving. You can choose what you take in and spend your time and awareness on. You can level up through your environment and attention.
What does that path look like?
What are the important parts of your dream life?
Meaningful work?
Playful hobbies?
Big experiences?
Wholehearted yeses?
Devoted relationships?
Imagine.
Dare to believe in the possibility of better.
Take nothing too seriously.
Don’t let gravity slow you down.
Be light.
