blank canvas
My writing slate is clear. I can write about anything I want (for better or worse). There are no prompts. There are no instructions or lists (in this small area of my life at least!). Only “write.”

practices
This is a reminder that our practices keep us afloat. They are the tiny, bold, transformative, far-travelling lifeboats that can take us anywhere we want to go. If only we hold our True North. If only we keep showing up at our agreed upon regular intervals. If only we honor our vows and return time and time again.

language
Language connects, broadens, and expands. The world is massive and only gets bigger the more you know and learn. We must experience. We must enjoy it together and find our place with all other creatures on the planet. We are one!

accepting help
When it’s offered, even if you feel really squirmy and unsure about it, say yes. Say thank you. Let their help be a further part of a bond that brings you together. Shared humanity. Love and kindness, offered and received.

passion, strength, courage
This is about the iron will and the fortitude of our own brave and true characters.
Refuse to give up. Just keep pushing. Stay with yourself.
A life well lived.

literality does not cleverness make
Funny word play…

relishing joyful moments
Maybe this is what life is all about: noticing little split seconds or even a few seconds, when you just feel bliss. You are just enjoying yourself, and everything else fades away.
That’s precious. Those are precious moments. Everyday magic.

hummingbird: chronicles, pt. 4
On speed, clues, robots, and the land of Too Much.
If I were a bird, unquestionably, I’d be a hummingbird. Because they are stunning and beautiful and my favorite bird. Because they are tiny and fascinating. Because they are bright.
And because they are so fast you can barely keep your eyes on them.

wondering mathematician: chronicles, pt. 3
Regarding time and living your very own todays, no one else can solve your math.
We each know for our own lives, by showing up for ourselves, as compassionate best friends, as scientists, as wonderers.

addends: chronicles, pt. 2
How would I chronicle my todays?
How do you solve a math problem when all the addends are too many for the sum total?

chronicles, pt. 1
Nevertheless, today strings itself together, with rapid, blurry succession and marriage to yesterday and tomorrow, and the speed at which they pass and glue themselves together makes time feel wobbly. It feels like a magic portal sometimes: you look up and another month is gone.
In this sense, we’re all time travelers.

clarity
On gaining clarity…

let it settle
Life lessons from the gym…
If I’m not starting something from a place of solidity and calm waters, my efforts are so much murkier and more likely to be chaotic and less concise and effective. Just like my bench press is so much more concise, powerful, and effective when it is properly set up from the beginning, from the very top, before I even start the movement.

poppins
On being imagineers…
“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams…”
-Arthur O'Shaughnessy

coexistence
Everything comes together. Joy and pain join hands. Our struggles can lead us to our greatest triumphs. We are human and full of love.

pieces & progress
On journeying towards yourself and your happier, hard-won life…
comfort or change?
Instead of only choosing comfort and stagnancy, give yourself the gift of a spark that makes a change you want to see in your own life.

legacy
What are we building?
In the big picture and in the face of terrible circumstances or great challenge, we can have hope in the legacy of kindness, vivaciousness for life, generosity of spirit, and depth of love we leave behind us.

doing the damn thing, pt. 2
On struggles. On persisting. On being grateful, happy to be here, and excited for the future.
Doing the damn thing matters when it’s for something worthwhile that brings transformation into your own life that you wouldn’t have without the damn thing. We don’t show up and do shit just to do it; we pick actions and visions that align with our values, and then we stack and invest into them, over and over, with heart and commitment, for good reason…

on doing the damn thing
Do the damn thing. You must have something (maybe multiple things) in your life that reliably lift you up and help you be better. Even when you don’t feel like doing it. This builds meaning into your days and how you spend your time. It’s one way to take care yourself — both now and for the future.
